    Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Sean, one of our biggest fans, made a video review of The Demon Kit he purchased at Big Apple Music in New Hartford, NY. Sean talks preciseness of the construction, the quality vs. cost of the kit, the Evans heads, the drum’s tonal character, and the flexibility of the hardware mounts. This is the same kit that is available at all of our dealers’ stores right now, for you or your band’s drummer to play on, video with your camera or cell phone, upload it to our YouTube group, and win a chance at getting a record deal, and win The Outlaw Kit.

Sean has also posed some great pics of his kit at the Drums My Life forum. Thanks, Sean! You rock!

Britney Spears: Isolated Mic Track, Isolated Fans

    Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Music ain’t what it used to be and there are lots of reasons for that– exploitation of artist integrity from managers, labels trying to survive in a digital age, technology in engineering records etc. but these reasons are a part of what makes us want to send a really talented musician to Hollywood to play in-front of the right people.

Here’s Brittney Spears doing her ‘thang — she looks good doing it but how does it sound? Well, this isolated feed from her mic settles that argument quick as can be. Before we roast her, do take into consideration her rise to stardom at an early age, her agents, label pressure and craazy fanbase, but all things considered, she can’t sing well and it shows that her music is not, well, music-oriented.

I remember when Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins were replaced for this and the Backstreet Boys– right in the middle of my high school years! It’s totally unforgivable to have ‘Freebird’ as your class song. (Do you know what its like to sway awkwardly for 13 minutes on a boat on a chemical infested river? Neither do I since I was playing poker with the busboys in the kitchen).

Anyway, my point is. Dixon Drums wants to give someone who is clearly talented a chance to get out there and play in-front of people who are looking for talent and we think you have what it takes. If you haven’t already, click here to join our YouTube group and submit yourself playing a drum solo on our Demon kit at a store and you’re elligible for all kinds of stuff– including a free set, a trip to Hollywood, a chance to play in-front of A&R execs while being filmed for a TV special! To quote Britney: this is a world where anything can happen.

A Kid Learns to Play Drums with Rock Band Video Game, Gets a Gig at His Church

    Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

helping hands worship teamCheck out this post in the Rock Band forums about the moral dilemma of a kid who learned to play drums on the game, got a gig playing drums at his church, and now feels compelled to tell the church how he learned. For what it’s worth Bakkster (his username on the forum), it does not matter how you discovered your natural talent for rhythm, but rather that you did discover it and are willing to share it. Dwight from “The Office” Drums Naked in “The Rocker”

    Monday, August 18th, 2008

Big Drum Thump reports that Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight in The US version of NBC’s The Office will be playing a washed-up drummer who joins his nephew’s band, A.D.D.

The movie is full of semi-accurate technology, internet, and musician geek cultural references. Check out this 9 minute promo where Matt (the nephew) sets up Mac laptops with Apple iSight webcams for the band so that they can jam remotely over the internet. Rainn’s character Robert ‘Fish’ Fishman thinks the cameras are only microphones, so he does not bother to wear clothes. Matt’s sister find the live stream over the local network because the virtual jam session is using up most of the home network’s bandwidth, she captures the video in order to humiliate Fish, she uploads it to YouTube, it goes viral, and hilarity ensues. The film also features guitarist/singer/songwriter Teddy Geiger as the band’s guitarist and singer, Josh Gad as the keyboard player, and Emma Stone as the bassist, and Christina Applegate as the love interest. Maybe you should just watch the first couple minutes because these things then to spoil too much of the movie, and it looks pretty good.

Fish outside the NAMM Show Check out the movie’s official site ionlydrumnaked.com which links to the film’s YouTube user page with even more videos. The gallery shows some are also some good NAMM and Guitar Hero/RockBand references in the film.

Rainn watched heavy metal music videos on YouTube to observe drummers in preparation of the role of Fish, and channeld the spirit of The Who’s drummer Keith Moon. Rainn took lessons form drummer Stuart Johnson, who has made several appearances and co-written the soundtrack for several films, including the drummer of the all-star band Ming Tea in the Austin Power’s movies. You might remember the silly tracks BBC or Daddy Wasn’t There.

“The Rocker” is out in theaters on August 20th.
